Who is M. C. Escher ?
ANSWER show&hide     INFO show&hide
Maurits Cornelis Escher (June 17, 1898 March 27, 1972), M. C. Escher, was a Dutch graphic artist. He is known for his often mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs and mezzotints. These feature impossible constructions, explorations of infinity, architecture and tessellations. People expressed the opinion that he possessed a mathematical brain but he never excelled in the subject at any stage during his schooling and treated the subject with some considerable unease. His artistic expression was created from images in his mind, rather than directly from observations and travels to other countries. M.C.Escher stated that Mathematicians go to the garden gate but they never venture through to appreciate the delights within.
