Water Buckets
Two friends have an eight-quart jug full of water.
They also have two empty jars, one holding five quarts, the other three.
How can they measure exactly 4 quarts of water?
Step 1: Fill up the 5 quart jar.
Step 2: Pour from the 5 quart jar to the 3 quart jar. You now have 2 quarts left in your 5 quart jar
Step 3: Pour away the water from the 3 quart jar, and pour the 2 quarts from the 5 quart jar to the 3 quart jar. You now have 2 quarts of water in the 3 quart jar, and none in the 5 quart jar
Step 4: Fill up the 5 quart jar and pour into the 3 quart jar unti it is just full. You are left with 4 quarts of water in your 5 quart jar.
