How Old ?
In fifteen years, Susan will be 4 times as old as she was nine years ago.
How old is she now?
Solution
Let the present age of Susan = x
Age nine years ago = x-9
Age in fifteen years = x+15
x+15= 4(x-9)
x+15=4x-36
-3x=-36-15
-3x=-51
x=17
Her present age is 17 years.
Check answer.
x+15 = 17+15=32
4(x-9) = 4(17-9) = 4(8) = 32
Thus, 17 is correct.
